The first thing Gaster felt was relief.
It was over. At long last, it was over. Memoryhead was gone. The battle had been won. Gaster and his family had won.
But then, as Gaster turned away from the edge of the abyss, the feeling of relief quickly melted away, and was replaced with denial and grief. Without thinking, he ran over to the place where Sans lay face-down on the dock, his hand still wading in the trickling waters.
"Sans!" he gasped. "Sans!"

His run slowly turned into a walk, and then he stopped as he fell to his knees, his bones clacking against the wooden board as he stared down at Sans, devastated.
